Sports

Life at Immanuel College is not just about the 8.30 to 4.05 school day, the core curriculum subjects and public examinations. Many of the important goals of an Immanuel education are achieved beyond the classroom. Pupils develop stronger and more confident characters and grow into compassionate and responsible adults by helping others both within and outside the school community.

 

During the school week, there are many sports clubs offered both at lunchtime and after school. For the full list of this half term's clubs, please click here

There is the opportunity to take part in inter-school's matches in Football, Girls' Football, Netball, Cross-Country Running, Basketball, Trampolining, and Hockey.

Immanuel v Westfield - Cricket
7th June

The year 7 cricket team won their latest cricket match partly thanks to a great batting performance by captain Ben Sheleg. Sheleg scored 32 runs and helped Immanuel score 70 runs overall. The team then bowled consistently limiting the opportunities for Westfield to score runs. Immanuel won the game by 26 runs.
This was the team's fourth victory and mean they won the district title.

Immanuel v Queens - Boys Tennis
7th June

The Year 8 tennis continued their perfect season in the tennis with a emphatic victory over their opponents from Queens school. They won the match overall 4 sets to love. The Year 9 team were also victorius winning by 3 sets to one in their match and unfortunately the Year 10 team lost on game countback after drawing their match 2 sets to 2.

Immanuel v Bushey Academy - Rounders
28th May

Immanuel College win AGAIN.
The year 7 and 8 rounder’s team went to Bushey Academy on the 27th May, where they were again victorious, securing two comfortable wins 15 – 71/2 for year 8 and 141/2 to 8 in year 7.

Immanuel Dominate the Maccabi Tournament - Rounders
24th May

 JFS, Yavneh and Hasmonean were no contest for the year seven Immanuel Rounders team who beat every team comfortably, to ensure that they were crowned Maccabi Champions.  The year eights had a victorious win over JFS 11 1/2 to 3 rounders which secured their place as Maccabi champions for the second year running.  The year nine time came joint first with the result forced to go to rounders scored.  Immanuel narrowly missed out by 2 rounders to Hasmonean and despite having very little training  the year ten team played fantastically well with some very close matches.

 

Immanuel v Bushey Meads - Cricket
24th May

The Year 7 cricket team continued with their 100% record in cricket this year with a close win over Bushey Meads School.  The Immanuel opening pair of Ben Sheleg and Joel Greenbaum scored quickly but once these two were out Immanuel struggled a little to score runs finally being all out for 78 runs. The team knew they had to bowl and field well and they started impressively in particular player of the match Joe Metlis who claimed a hat trick of wickets in one over. Bushey Meads came back strongly in the last few overs but could not reach the Immanuel total giving Immanuel the win by 12 runs.

Immanuel v Francis Coombe - Cricket
18th May

The Year 7 cricket team continued their great start to the season with another win this time by 6 wickets against Francis Coombe. Deciding to bat first, Immanuel struggled to score runs only scoring 8 runs off 8 overs. Finally with only two overs to go Joel Greenbaum and Samuel Goldberg started hitting the boundaries pushing the score to 62 runs.
Immanuel bowled and fielded well limiting Francis Coombe to only single runs and taking some good wickets. Another good win.

Immanuel v Haberdashers - Girls Tennis
18th May

Another win for the girls Tennis team. The year 8 Girls beat Haberdashers 19 games to 15, with Chloe Gordon and Emily Basalm dominating 6 -3 and 6-0.
The year 7 team drew 16 games all.  Amber Carlin and Danielle Shohet were too strong for the opposition defeating Habs 6-3, 6 – 0.

Immanuel v Bushey Academy - Cricket
12th May

Immanuel College Year 7 cricket team had a comfortable win in their first game of the league beating Bushey Academy by 9 wickets. Immanuel bowled well and restricted the opposition to a low score which they quickly made only losing one wicket while chasing the total.

 

 

 

Immanuel v St. Margrets Bushey - Girls Tennis
12th May

Immanuel College Girls tennis team had their first ever game in the Watford District School Tennis Competition against St. Margrets Bushey and both teams won their matches. The Year 7 team won their match 4 sets to love and the Year 8 team won by 3 sets to 1.

Immanuel v Queens - Cricket
11th May

The Year 8 cricket team lost a very close match with Queens school failing to reach their total by 8 runs. Immanuel had given Queens a high score due to a number of mistakes in the field. Jake Norton looked to have given Immanuel a chance scoring a number of boundaries on his way to 36 runs but after he was dismissed the next batters could not reach the total.

Immanuel v Aldenham - Rounders
6th May

Immanuel College Rounders team had a mixed start to their rounders season with the Year 9 team losing by 10 rounders against a strong Aldenham team. The Year 8 team play very well but lost by 1 rounder. The Year 7 team had a great start to their season with a convincing win by 13 rounders.

Immanuel v Parmiters - Cricket
4th May

The Year 8 cricket team who were promoted to the Premier League this season struggled in their first game. The bowling was erractic and this meant the team gave Parmiters lots of extra runs. Immanuel lost early wickets and did not keep up a high enough run rate and eventually lost by 14 runs.

The Year 8 tennis team were again too good for the opposition winning all their matches and only dropping 3 games in total.
The Year 9 team won one of their 4 matches and the Year 10 team with a different squad could only win one of their four matches also.

Immanuel v Joan of Arc - Boys Tennis
28th April

Immanuel College tennis teams started their season with two wins in the three ages groups against Joan of Arc. The Year 8 team were extremely strong winning all their matches. The Year 9 team lost three of their matches against strong opposition. The Year 10 team battled hard and eventually won three out of the four matches.

 Immanuel v Westfield - Cricket
21st April

Immanuel College cricket team started their season in winning form with a two wicket win over Westfield. The team restricted Westfield to 65 runs and looked like scoring that with ease until a collapse saw Immanuel needing 3 runs off 2 balls. Jack Balsam scored a boundary giving Immanuel the victory.

District Titles Success in Basketball

Immanuel College basketball teams had great success this season with three teams having perfect seasons and another losing only one match culminating in the teams winning four of the five District Basketball Titles.
The Year 7 team won all but one of their matches and won the title on points difference. MVP for the Year 7 team was Ariel Rahahmim.
The Year 8 team had a perfect season winning all their games. MVP for Year 8 was Asher Rabstein.
The Year 9 team also had a perfect season winning all their games. MVP for Year 9 was Zach Collins.
The Senior team were extremely strong and again won all their games. MVP for the Senior team was Adam Schwartz.

2nd March

The year 7 and year 9 teams kept their 100% records going this season with wins against Bushey Meads school. Both teams started increadily well racing to big leads but were pulled back making the games much closer in scoring, The year 7 team won by 15 points to 10 and the year 9 team won by 30 points to 22.

Medal Haul for Girls at Maccabi Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament
24th February

Every single girl took away a medal at the Annual Maccabi Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament.  All girls played to the best of their ability but a special mention must go to Jennifer Murad and Alexandra Dangoor who came back from a 8 – 1 loss to steal the game from Hasmonean 21 -18.  Sophie Cohen, Chloe Gordon and Hanna Baderman were also awarded players of the Tournament by the other competitors for their sporting behaviour.

Immanuel V Rickmansworth - Boys Basketball
9th February

The year 8 team kept their 100% record with their third win this season beating Rickmansworth by 41 points to 10.

Girls crown champions at Maccabi Basketball Tournament
8th February

Year 7 and 8 Girls from Immanuel College took the Maccabi Schools Basketball tournament by storm on Monday 8th February, defeating JFS 20-0 and Yavneh College 18-8 to be crown champions.
Emily Balsam, Year 8, was named player of the Tournament, and there were notable performances from Danielle Shohet and Amber Carlin, Year 7 and Ofir Golan, Year 8.

The senior basketball team continued their winning ways with 28 point to 11 win against Joan of Arc. The team worked well together and were dominant throughout the game.

25th January

The Immanuel team performed extremely well in this competition with all competitors showing good skill and control. Rachel Goldstein won two medals at this event.

25th January

Immanuel basketball teams had a number of matches this week against Bushey Meads in three ages groups and were pleased to win two and lose one. The Year 8 team won convincingly by 30 points to 10, the year 10 team were beaten 26 points to 11 and the senior boys team won a physical match by 44 points to 27.

Girls District Basketball Tournament
19th January

The College’s Year 7 and 8 Girls’ Basketball teams entered the district basketball tournament. Against a high standard of schools, many of whom hold ‘sports college’ status, the Year 7 team did extremely well in finishing 2nd overall behind Queens Sports College, whilst the Year 8 team finished 5th but still enjoyed the experience.

26th November

The Year 7 Boys followed the girls winning success at Maccabi tournaments by winning the 5 a side football tournament only losing one match in the whole competition. The Year 8 team struggled in a high standard of competition and the Year 9 team played well and came 4th overall.

Girls Crowned Double Champions at Maccabi Netball Tournment

25th November                               

The year 7 team became the Maccabi Netball Champions, beating all teams with ease.
The year 9 team won all their games and drew one match to become the second team to be named the Maccabi Netball Champions.
The Year 8 team came third with the result having to be calculated by goal difference because all the teams were so closely matched.
Year 10 team came 4th and the year 11 and sixth form team came second, only losing out on first place by two goals.

The Year 9 basketball team got off to a flying start to the season beating a strong Westfield team by 48 points to 29. The team were extremely hardworking and this was rewarded with this victory.

A great start to the Year 7 basketball team beating Bushey Academy by 19 points to 16. Immanuel dominated early on scoring well but Bushey bought the game closer in the final quarter.

Maccabi Tournament - Girls Football
16th November

Teams from Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 took part in the 5-a-side Maccabi Girls Football Tournament. The Year 7 team did extremely well not losing a game throughout the tournament. Congratulations must go to Amber Carlin who scored 10 goals.

Immanuel V Francis Coombe - Football
9th November

The Year 9 football team made the trip to Francis Coombe School and were unlucky to lose on a night when they should have won. The team had the better start and should have scored but for a good save by the goal keeper. Immanuel went 1 -0 down when they completely left the striker who had a free header to score. They were soon level when Zach Collins scored from a well worked corner. Having not learnt from the first goal again Immanuel left the striker on his own to again score with a free header. The second half saw Immanuel create a number of chances but could only convert one of these. With daylight fading Immanuel pushed for the win and were caught on the counter attack when a shot from Francis Coombe was well saved but the rebound feel to a Francis Coombe player who shot it in for the winner.

3rd November

The Year 10 football team travelled to Bushey Hall for only their second game of the season. The team started well with an early goal but soon found themselves 2 goals to 1 down after poor defending. They rallied together after half time and were stronger for most of the game levelling the scores at 5 - 5 with only minutes to play. Unfortunately two quick goals from Bushey sealed the game with Bushey winning 7 goals to 5.

The Year 8 football team were at home for the football match against Bushey Academy. The game was evenly matched for the first half with Bushey Academy going in one goal ahead at half time. They were soon further ahead and with the score at 3 - 1 there looked like there could only be one winner. Immanuel fought back and through good team work and strong commitment managed to force a draw with the game ending 5 goals to 5.

The Year 9 Immanuel netball team performed extremely well against a well organised Queens School and were very close to victory but lost by 10 -9.

Immanuel College V Bushey Meads - Football
19th October

The Year 7 and Year 9 teams both had matches against Bushey Meads and unfortunately could do nothing to avoid defeats against strong opposition.
The Year 7 team started strongly and it was only the oppositions goal keeper that kept the scores level. Bushey Meads gained confidence and were soon ahead. The team gave 100% but eventually lost the game by 5 goals to 2.
The Year 9 team also started strong but the opposition scored 3 quick goals that knocked the Immanuel teams confidence. The team did well to bring the score back to 4 goals to 3 but could not find an equiliser in time before the final whistle.

19th October

The Year 7 netball team continued their recent impressive form with a good win over Rickmansworth with the score of 15 - 6.  The girls teamwork and effort contributed to this fine win.

Immanuel College took two teams to Bushey Academy for football matches and were the happier teams at the final whistle. The Year 7 team keen to improve on their start to the season competed well with a strong Bushey Academy team who had won all their previous games. It was the impressive team work and commitment of Immanuel that saw them win the game by 2 goals to 1.
The Year 9 team were also very competitive and despite going 2 goals ahead in the game to make it 5-3 they could not hold on in the final minutes and had to settle for a draw with the score at 5 goals to 5.

The netball teams continued their good start to the season with another two wins against Bushey Meads. The Year 7 team won 12-3 and the Year 9 won a close contest 5-4.

Immanuel College V Aldenham - Boys' Football
6th October 2009

The senior teams travelled to Aldenham for football matches. The first eleven were very impressive in a 5-1 win, with both forwards playing very well. The second eleven could do nothing to stop a 7-0 defeat.

Immanuel College V Westfield - Boys' Football
6th October 2009

Immanuel College took three teams to Westfield for football matches and came away with mixed results. The Year 7 team was determined not to make the same mistakes as the night before; they played very well and drew the game 1-1.
The Year 8 team came up against a team whose strikers were in excellent form and despite battling hard lost 6-1.
The Year 9 team had numerous chances but could not seem to find the finishing touch. When the scores were level at  1-1, a breakaway goal gave Westfield the win.

Immanuel College V Parmiters School - Boys' Football
5th October 2009

The Year 7 team made a promising start to their footballing career at Immanuel College with a closely-fought game at Parmiters School. Immanuel scored first and had the better of the chances, but two breakaway goals gave Parmiters victory by 2 goals to 1.

Immanuel took three teams to Westfield for  netball matches and came away with very positive results. Both the Year 8 and Year 9 teams won their games, with the Year 9 team dominating in a 18 -0 victory and the Year 8 team winning 6 -4. The Year 7 team were unlucky to lose 8-4.

Immanuel College V’s St. Margaret’s - Netball
Tuesday 22nd September 2009


A busy Tuesday night saw Immanuel College PE Department travelling to both football and netball fixtures

The girls had three fixtures against St. Margaret’s, Bushey, favourites to win the league.

The Year 7’s made a great start to their Immanuel netball career beating St. Margaret’s 10 - 6.  Nicole Maltz, the captain, was also named player of the match.

The Year 8 and 9 teams also made a good start but unfortunately lost their first game.  There were some commendable performances, from the captains Lauren Mullem and Chloe Gordon, as well as Deborah Eder who made her debut as shooter and Taliya Ambalo who gave a sterling performance.  Amber Carlin in Year 7 should also be mentioned as she played in the Year 8 team. Well done to all involved!

Immanuel College V’s Rickmansworth – Boys’ Football
Tuesday 22nd September 2009


The boys played fixtures against Rickmansworth, a strong footballing school.
The Year 8 Football team battled hard and despite an excellent fight back from 4-1 down, Immanuel could not find an equalizer and eventually lost 4-3. There were good performances from Gavriel Nussbaum, Oscar Wagner and Rafi Kennard.

The Year 10 Football team improved on last years’ result against Rickmansworth, but despite lots of effort they lost 3 -0. David Myers made a promising debut in centre midfield and Jonathan Gaon did well in goal.

Thursday 10th September 2009

We had a fixture against JFS last night and took two football teams over. The 1st Eleven drew 1-1 with Gideon Rabstein being the man of the match. The 2nd Eleven struggled having never played together and lost 7-0 with Cameron Appel being the man of the match.
